President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. recently led the distribution of much-needed agricultural interventions to support the local farming community in Candaba, Pampanga. This initiative aims to provide assistance to rice farmers and farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) in the area.
A total of 12,141 rice farmers and nine FCAs in Candaba were the recipients of these agricultural interventions. Among them, 3,680 rice farmers who cultivate up to two hectares of land received financial assistance under the Rice Farmer Financial Assistance (RFFA) Program. Each farmer received a sum of P5,000, which will help alleviate some of the financial burdens they face in their farming operations.
In addition to the financial assistance, the farmers also received Fertilizer Discount Vouchers worth a total of P63.31 million. These vouchers will enable them to purchase fertilizers at a discounted price, ensuring that they have access to the necessary inputs to enhance their crop yields and improve overall productivity.
Furthermore, selected FCAs in Candaba were provided with various forms of support. They received 1,755 bags of certified inbred rice seeds, which will enable them to cultivate high-quality rice crops. Additionally, a P5-million warehouse equipped with a mechanical dryer was established to help improve post-harvest processes and ensure the proper storage of agricultural produce.
The Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Repopulation and Clustering Program also extended its support to the farmers in Candaba. Through this program, the FCAs received interventions worth P5.5 million, which will contribute to the recovery and expansion of the swine industry in the area.
Recognizing the importance of agribusiness and marketing assistance, the farmers in Candaba were also provided with support in these areas. This assistance aims to help them explore new market opportunities and improve their overall profitability.
